First in a trio, this painting sets the pulse. Downbeats land like heels on hard ground; blocks advance, break, and regroup. Established structures form, then a new gesture cuts across—sabotage and disruption as counterpoint, echoing the movement’s stamped chords and obstinate drive. The surface is constant transformation: forms propose and are interrupted; what reads as harmonious chaos is musical texture in growth. Change is the steady thing.
A contemporary abstract response to The Rite of Spring, it catches the instant when structure meets impact and keeps evolving—perpetual motion rather than resolution.
On the hammering chord and off‑kilter accents, see the LA Phil note.
