“Cabaret” conjures up images of the smoke-filled bars of Berlin and Paris where artists, singers, writers, and dancers met to perform the music of Weill, Satie, Brel et al. Join us in a glass of wine at our smoke-free but nostalgic cabaret. Heliconian singers are joined by instrumentalists in celebration of the past.

For more than 25 years, Paula Arciniega has built a career that bridges music and visual art. Trained as a classical mezzo-soprano with both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Vocal Performance from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, she brings the same bold expressiveness to the stage that she does to the canvas. Her voice is shaped by a rare synergy: music serves as muse for her paintings, while the tactile energy of painting deepens the emotional color of her singing.
Paula has appeared with companies such as Toronto City Opera, Hamilton Philharmonic (where she was featured soloist for Maestro James Sommerville’s Farewell Gala), Berkeley Opera, Opera Modesto, and the San Francisco Philharmonic. Her stage roles range from Miss Todd in The Old Maid and the Thief to Prince Orlofsky in Die Fledermaus and Hansel in Hansel and Gretel. She has also sung in productions of Carmen, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and La Traviata, demonstrating versatility across operatic styles. In addition to opera, she performs chamber, choral, and concert repertoire, bringing the same depth of interpretation to intimate ensembles and large-scale symphonic settings.
Recent collaborations highlight her artistic range: she performed with Measha Brueggergosman-Lee at the 2024 Luminato Festival finale and contributed as a soloist on Measha’s double-album LAUREATE (2024).
Beyond opera, Paula has appeared with experimental theatre companies such as San Francisco’s Thrillpeddlers (Torture of Cavaradossi, Shocktoberfest) and Berkeley’s Shotgun Players (Medea). Her diverse background also includes 15 years of formal ballet training, with additional studies in jazz and flamenco, and over 30 years of piano — all of which infuse her performances with a heightened sense of rhythm, movement, and dramatic presence.
A scholarship recipient throughout her studies at the San Francisco Conservatory, Paula was named an honored member of Mille Femme Toronto in 2008 and has been active in the Toronto Heliconian Club’s Music & Art Divisions since 2014.
Since relocating to Toronto, she continues to enrich the local music scene with her versatility, distinctive timbre, and the depth of presence she brings to every performance. Read more: Experience + Awards >
